South Bend

South Bend is a county seat of the St. Joseph County, Indiana, the United States that is situated on the St. Joseph Rive. The city had an approximate population of 101.168 people in 2010. Meanwhile, the population of its Metropolitan Statistical Area was evaluated as 318.586 people and 721.296 residents in Combined Statistical Area.
South Bend is considered the fourth-largest city of Indiana state and acts as both economic and cultural hub of Northern Indiana.
The city itself was established in 1865 when the economy started to develop in that area. The St.
Joseph River stimulated the economic growth of the town in the 20th century and assisted several huge industries as the Studebaker Corporation or the Oliver Chilled Plow Company.
Notably, the industries that conclude the central part of the city's manufacturing sector are health care, education, small business, and tourism. Thus, the large corporations that currently still exist conclude Crowe Horwath, Honeywell, and AM General. However, the University of Notre Dame has a significant contribution to the city's economy being the second largest employer. The city also has a well-developed education sector. Thus, there are several famous institutions of higher learning as the University of Notre Dame that was mentioned earlier. The university was founded in 1842 by French priest Edward Sorin. Moreover, there are Saint Mary's College and Holy Cross College located nearby Notre Dame region. Indiana University South Bend is considered the third-largest university in Indiana. Other universities worth mentioning are the Purdue Polytechnic Institute and Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
Public schools, in turn, are managed by the South Bend Community School Corporation that runs ten intermediate centers (grades 5-8), 18 primary centers (grades K-4), and six high schools (grades 9-12) per year. The outstanding school located in South Bend is Veritas Academy, together with Xavier School of Excellence and Career Academy South Bend that were opened in 2009 and 2011 respectively. There are also public schools in South Bend as Trinity School at Greenlawn, the Stanley Clark School, and the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
